Plateau crisis: We will ‘smoke out’ agents of death – Lalong assures

Sequel to the resurgence of violence in some communities of Plateau State, Governor Simon Lalong on Thursday assured the citizenry of his administration’s commitment to smoke out “agents of death” by forcefully relocating them to wherever they came from.

He challenged all and sundry to ensure the sustenance of the relative peace in the State, in order to bring about sustainable development.

Lalong stated this on the occasion of the Plateau Day, at the ongoing 2018 Jos Trade Fair.

He said, “In the first three years of this administration, you would recall that our security strategies paid off and we experienced relative peace before the enemies of progress and peaceful coexistence struck recently.

“Nonetheless, the government remains undaunted and so, in collaboration with security agencies, we are leaving no stone unturned, so as to smoke out the agents of death from our midst and forcefully relocate them from our State to wherever they came from.

On efforts being made by the present administration in the state to improve the business sector in the state, the Governor said, “One major lynchpin of the ‘Rescue Administration’ has been its deliberate decision to tackle the state’s industrialization challenge headlong by engaging in the revamping of hitherto moribund state-owned industries which were abandoned by past administrations for decades.

“Our efforts in this regard have paid off handsomely. For instance, the Plateau State Fertilizer Blending Plant, Bokkos has since been resuscitated.

“For the first time in the history of Plateau State, we now have a functional Fertilizer Plant that is fully operational at optimal capacity”, he maintained.

Lalong also assured the Plateau Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture (PLACCIMA) who are the main organisers of the trade fair, that efforts have reached advanced stage for the acquisition of a permanent trade fair ground.

Earlier in his welcome address, President of PLACCIMA, Bulus Dareng, said, “We must not succumb to violence and people who want to destabilize Plateau.

Dareng appealed to the State Government to build a permanent trade fair ground, rather than operating on borrowed ground.
