EPL: Conte drags Chelsea to court, demands £20million settlement

Antonio Conte has refused to meet with Chelsea and is insisting on taking them to court for the rest of his salary, Sky Sports News reports.

Conte, who recently turned down the Real Madrid job, feels he should be paid what he is contractually owed out of respect, after he was sacked earlier this year.

It is understood that the Italian’s lawyers have been working on two separate cases for weeks: one for an employment tribunal and the other for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Chelsea have been trying to set up face-to-face talks with Conte in search of an out-of-court solution, but he has refused to attend those meetings.

Conte reportedly wants £8.7m worth of damages on top of his remaining year’s salary of £11.3m, taking his claim to £20m.

But it is believed that Chelsea are refusing to pay because of his behaviour while at the club, including treatment of Diego Costa, failure to turn up to sponsorship events, late arrival to press conferences, and parking in the wrong space at their Cobham training ground.

Champions League: Barcelona becomes first team to qualify for Round of 16

Barcelona are the first team to book a spot in the knockout round of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Spanish champions were held to a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday.

Playing without talisman Lionel Messi, Barca took the lead in the second half through substitute Malcom.

The Brazilian winger curled in from 20 yards to give his side a deserved lead.

Mauro Icardi was however given room to turn and shoot past Marc-Andre ter Stegen late in the game, to level scores.

The point gained could prove vital against group rival, Tottenham Hotspur, who won 2-1 against PSV, when both meet later in the month to fight for the second qualifying spot in the group.

More misery for Henry as Monaco crash out of Champions League

Thierry Henry’s Monaco slumped to an embarrassing 4-0 home defeat to Club Brugge on Tuesday as the French side tumbled out of the Champions League group stage with two games still to play.

Giant striker Hans Vanaken scored twice, the second from the penalty spot, while Brazilian forward Wesley banged in a third as Monaco fell three goals behind in just 24 minutes.

Ruud Vormer condemned Monaco to their heaviest ever home loss in Europe as he netted a fourth with five minutes to go to leave Henry’s team fighting for the consolation of a spot in the Europa League last 32.

It came just hours after club owner Dmitry Rybolovlev was detained for questioning by police in Monaco in relation to a corruption probe stemming from his long-running legal battle with a Swiss art dealer.

Henry remains without a win in five matches since replacing Leonardo Jardim last month in his first managerial role, as Monaco’s winless run in the Champions League extended to 12 outings.

“I am upset with the way we reacted to falling behind. We started well, but once we fell behind we stopped playing and that’s a little bit worrying,” said Henry.

“We need to try and get back on the right track and will now focus on the league. I hope we’ll find the solution to stopping Paris,” he added, ahead of Sunday’s visit of the Ligue 1 leaders.

“Right now I’m telling myself the worst is possible.”

Defender Djibril Sidibe roundly criticised Monaco’s latest dismal performance.

“It was shameful. Even if we showed good intent, it is the end product that counts. We weren’t at the required level this evening, it’s as simple as that,” said Sidibe.

“We need to ask individual questions of ourselves. If you don’t win 50-50s then you cannot win matches.”

Henry was dealt another injury blow ahead of kick-off with Russia international Aleksandr Golovin ruled out with an ankle problem, while the game came too soon for inspirational Portuguese winger Rony Lopes.

Radamel Falcao returned to captain the side after missing the reverse fixture, a 1-1 draw on October 24, and the Colombian went close in the first few minutes as he headed a tough chance wide at the far post.

– Monaco fall apart –
Sofiane Diop should have fired Monaco ahead when he had just Brugge goalkeeper Ethan Horvath to beat, but the US international pulled off a brilliant save to keep out the teenager’s powerful strike from close range.

Brugge was without a win in the Champions League group stage since 2005, but the Belgians grabbed the lead on 12 minutes as Vanaken picked out the roof of the net from a Mats Rits cross.

It got worse for Monaco five minutes later as Antonio Barreca was whistled for a handball while attempting to block a shot from Vanaken, who smacked the resulting penalty beyond Diego Benaglio.

Passive defending allowed Wesley to blast home a third, the Brazilian picking the up ball in the channel down the left and skipping past Kamil Glik before hammering in from the edge of the area.

Horvath produced another sharp save to dig out a deflected effort from Youri Tielemans, but Henry effectively accepted the game was up when he removed Falcao for 17-year-old Gobe Gouano on the hour.

Sidibe sent a flashing drive across the face of the Brugge goal in a rare second-half opening for the hosts, but a dreadful evening was compounded by more appalling defending to allow Vormer a fourth — after Glik had hobbled off with a groin injury.

A flick-on by Rezaei Kaveh skipped past both Tielemans and Almamy Toure to leave Vormer to scamper clear and stroke beyond Benaglio to cap Brugge’s first group stage victory since a 3-2 home defeat of Rapid Vienna in November 2005.

EPL: Morata responds to Chelsea boss Sarri calling him ‘fragile’

Chelsea striker, Alvaro Morata has responded to his manager, Maurizio Sarri, calling him “fragile” over the weekend.

Morata said it takes time to improve, but added that he was better now.

He also said he has overcome the mental torment of his debut season at Chelsea.

Sarri had after Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday urged Morata to toughen up.

This came after Morata scored a brace in the game.

The Italian gaffer said he was concerned about Spanish forward’s mental toughness, while calling on him to continue to improve.

Morata’s first season at Stamford Bridge was unsuccessful and the Spaniard revealed he used to blame the rain for missing chances.

“I’m better,” Morata told Chelsea website.

“I think no one, only my wife, knows how big the last year was. The injury, it killed me. Now, it’s OK.

“In the last month of last season, I was down, down, down, down. I cannot be more down.

“When you touch the limit, the only thing you can do is to come back.

“I had a period where, if it’s raining, I’m angry because it’s raining. If I miss, it’s because the pitch is too wet.

“It was only excuses. It is not good. Everyone can have a bad period in their life.

“But we are famous, we have a lot of things. Sometimes people think we are not human, with no feelings, no problems.

“The important thing is to find the right balance. Now, I have, and I am very happy.

“It takes time. Because I had an injury, I was not fit when playing. But now I feel good.

“The most important thing is that, finally, I have found the right way and my head is OK.

“In football, physical condition is very important, but the head is the most important thing.

“If you don’t have the head, if the mentality is not good, then you are in trouble.”

Ronaldinho 'Owes 828 Million Naira Debt'

According to a report by Spanish publication, Marca, a judge in Brazil has reportedly ordered for football legend Ronaldinho’s passport to be seized over unpaid debts of 0f 828 million naira [£1.75million].

It is gathered that authorities were left shocked after they found a total of just two thousand naira [£5.24] in Ronaldinho’s bank accounts.

The report has it that the 38-year-old football star and his brother Roberto Assis were fined for illegal construction in a protected area, and they haven’t been able to pay off the debt because of high interest despite mortgaging their property.

Ronaldinho is yet to react to the court order but he is scheduled to take part in The Game of Champions friendly in Frankfurt on November 17.

Schmeichel in tears as Leicester bid farewell to Vichai

Leicester players and fans paid an emotional tribute to their owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash last week, by displaying Thailand flags and wearing special shirts.

Painful… Leicester City fans pay tribute to club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who is feared dead after a helicopter crash

The Thai businessman was killed along with four others in a devastating accident which occurred just minutes after Leicester’s 1-1 draw with West Ham in a parking lot outside the King Power Stadium.

Shirts with a picture of Leicester’s late chairman were laid out in the team’s dressing room for the players to wear before Saturday’s match with Cardiff while their travelling supporters came draped in Thailand flags to honour the life of the man they called ‘The Boss’.

Kasper Schmeichel, who was heartbroken by the death of the Leicester chairman and reportedly ‘held back by police’ as he ran towards the blazing helicopter after hearing it crash outside the stadium last week, struggled to contain his emotions as both sets of players lined-up for a minute’s silence before the match against Cardiff.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s son Aiyawatt also laid a wreath on the pitch before kick-off in memory of his late father, whose funeral got underway earlier on Saturday morning and will continue until next Friday with the Leicester players flying out to Thailand to pay their respects to him after their match.

Champions League: Messi to return for Inter Milan clash

Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, could return to action as soon as Tuesday, coach Ernesto Valverde said after their 3-2 victory at Rayo Vallecano.

The win was Barca’s third straight without Messi, who is currently out with a broken bone in his right arm.

However, Valverde told reporters after the match, that Messi could be back for the LaLiga leaders’ midweek trip to Inter Milan in the Champions League.

“I think we all play better with Messi in the side,” Valverde said.

“We will see how he is in training [on Sunday] with regards to the Inter game this week.”

Luis Suarez scored twice in Vallecas, as Barcelona had to come from behind to edge past Rayo Vallecano.

EPL: Sarri reveals one thing that shocked him at Chelsea

Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri has revealed he has been shocked by the club’s brilliant start to the season.

The Italian said he expected to struggle at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri joined the Blues from Napoli in the summer and Chelsea have been undefeated in their first ten Premier League matches under the Italian.

The Stamford Bridge landlords have progressed to the quarter-finals in the Carabao Cup as well as topping their Europa League group.

The Italian has transformed Chelsea’s play from their two years under Antonio Conte, with the former Napoli boss favouring a more possession-based approach.

When asked if he expected such a fine start this season, Sarri said, “No, no.

“Because in every experience that I have had before joining Chelsea I was in trouble in the first two months.

“I thought that it would be the same here. I think that here I was lucky that the players were able to win without a very good level of tactical organisation.”

EPL: Sarri finally confirms Chelsea’s captain

Chelsea coach, Maurizio Sarri has confirmed that defender Gary Cahill will remain the club’s captain despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.

Cahill has made just one Premier League appearance this season and has also attracted attention from Championship clubs, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa.

The former England star is currently behind David Luiz, Antonio Rudier and Andreas Christensen in the pecking order under Sarr’s squad.

“As we have seen in the last matches, the captain is Cahill, like in the last match [against Derby in the Carabao Cup],” ESPN quoted Sarri as saying on Friday.

“When he isn’t on the pitch, our captain is Azpilicueta. Our captain is Cahill.

“Cahill was the captain last season,” Sarri added. “I spoke with his teammates and they all told me he really was a very good captain.”

Sarri’s men will take on Crystal Palace in a Premier League clash Sunday evening.

EPL: PSG give condition to sign Alexis Sanchez from Man United

French giants, Paris Saint Germain will only sign Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United if the club allows him to go for free.
PSG are keen on a deal for Manchester United’s Sanchez, who has struggled at the club since joining last January from Arsenal despite his incredible £500,000 a week wages.
United are already considering letting the Chile international go if they can get a buyer.
The Sun UK reports that the French giants are keen on landing the player and could make a move in the summer.

However, the report claimed they want a bargain for the Chile winger, and could even ask for him on a free.

A source at PSG told the newspaper, “There has been some whispers that PSG want to take Alexis off of the club next summer.

“It’s no secret he has struggled and not lived up to the expectations. He isn’t getting any younger and it might never work for him.

“There was interest before the club signed him but he preferred staying in England at the time. That may have changed now.

“One of their top stars could go and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that a deal could be struck between the two clubs.”

Neymar supports PSG manager’s decision to drop Mbappe

Neymar says Paris Saint-Germain manager, Thomas Tuchel, was right to drop Kylian Mbappe and Adrien Rabiot for “failing to respect” team schedules, after they arrived late for a meeting.

Mbappe and Rabiot arrived late for a team briefing ahead of the Ligue 1 clash with Marseille on Sunday, with Julian Draxler called in to replace the teenage forward.

However both players redeemed themselves, after coming on as second-half substitutes, both scoring in the final three minutes of a 2-0 victory.

“This is between them and the coach. Yes, they have to respect the schedules, and they ended up failing in that part.

“They know, they are great players, important to our team, and we end up suffering because of it. But this is an inner thing. Then Kylian came in and ended up winning the game for us,” Neymar said according to L’Equipe.

Chelsea Are More Than Just Hazard - David Luiz Reveals, Hails 'Great Human', Maurizio Sarri

David Luiz

Brazilian defender, David Luiz thinks that the talk of Chelsea being Eden Hazard dependent has been overblown after seeing his side beat Burnley 4-0 without their top scorer available on Sunday.

Hazard has been missing since his side drew 2-2 with Manchester United, getting some rough treatment against Jose Mourinho’s side and suffering a back injury in the process.

But that did not hold the Blues back in east Lancashire, with goals from Alvaro Morata, Ross Barkley, Willian and substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek securing victory for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Sarri has now become the first Chelsea manager to remain unbeaten in his first 10 Premier League matches in charge, but is set to be without Hazard again for the visit of Derby County to Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

David Luiz, though, believes that the west London outfit have proven they can survive without the Belgium international, hailing the recent performances of Morata and Loftus-Cheek as illustrations of other players stepping up.

“We have many talented players here, not just Eden,” the Brazil centre-back told reporters.

“It is every single one. Even when we lost Pedro in the first 10 minutes of the game and in came Ruben [Loftus-Cheek]. We have other talented players also.

“This is a big club and at a big club, you cannot just play with 11 players. You have to have a minimum of 18 or 19 players ready to play and we are happy because we have more than 20. This is why you try to prepare well during pre-season to be ready during the season.

“During the season anything can happen, some injuries, some players not being well, many things can happen. We try to do our best and answer every question. Thursday [against BATE] was almost another team playing but with the same mentality, spirit and happiness.

“Everyone has to be ready to play. Alvaro [Morata] is a great player. He is doing amazing. Sometimes when the strikers don’t score and the pressure comes on them they love that.

“They love to score goals. We just say to him to keep doing what you are doing and the goals will come naturally, like they did today.”

David Luiz has previously told of how he would have left Chelsea had Antonio Conte – who is set to replace Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid – stayed at the club, but seems much happier now under Sarri having started all 10 league games thus far this season.

His selection against Burnley means that he has already matched his league appearances from last season, with Conte widely preferring Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill to former Paris Saint-Germain man.
And David Luiz is impressed with the impact of his head coach since joining the club from Napoli over the summer, particularly pointing out his personable nature.
“I think when you are a leader, you try to give that for the others. Sarri is our leader, he tries to show us what he wants to do and that’s it. We follow him. We just try to enjoy, to do our best and try to win some games. I think life is also about that.

“If you are not happy about something then you have to change so this is the main thing you have to do every single day. It is one of the best jobs in the world. So we try to train hard every day, to train with discipline, to try to play with responsibility but also happiness.

“Of course, he has his philosophy and he tries to show us every single day. We try to improve ourselves and the team.

"We are trying to do it. The results are coming because we are working hard every single day. I am so happy also because he is a great human.

“He knows how to teach us, how to improve us, when he is like that then it is easy to understand him and to try to be fantastic inside the pitch. I think I had the opportunity to play in many fantastic squads and I won with a great teams and lost in great teams. I think this team is trying to improve every day.

“The manager has been here for three or four months now. He is trying to improve our style of football and philosophy. The Premier League is not easy. It is just the beginning, we are keeping our feet on the ground and going game-by-game.”

Chelsea have retained a strong position near the top of the table, with victory at Turf Moor moving them up to second ahead of Manchester City’s Monday night game against Tottenham.

Meanwhile, they remain in the Carabao Cup and are on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League after winning all their games so far.

And David Luiz thinks the squad is deep enough to compete on all fronts simultaneously, with playing European matches on Thursday evenings not slowing them down as yet.

“When you play for big clubs and big clubs have the opportunity to play in many many competitions. I think it is amazing,” he concluded. “I think it is better to have games than training. I think then you have the possibilities to win titles.

“I am a lucky guy because I am always playing in big clubs and at big clubs you always try to win titles. I love that.”

Julen Lopetegui has been sacked by European Champions a day after the
humiliating 5-1 defeat by arch rivals Barcelona.

“The Board of Directors of Real Madrid C. F., meeting today October 29, 2018, has agreed to terminate the contract that linked coach Julen Lopetegui with the club,” the Spanish outfit said in a statement on Monday evening.

Lopetegui has been in charge since the start of the season but has overseen a terrible start to the league which sees them languish at the ninth spot.

Real Madrid Castilla coach and former player Santiago Solari will take charge of the team in the interim.

Real Madrid’s statement says the decision has been taken “in a bid to change the run of results that the team was in, with all the team’s season objectives still possible.”

Real Madrid appointed Lopetegui after Zinedane Zidane left Real Madrid. The Spaniard’s appointment in June was with controversy as it led to his sack on the eve of the World Cup while he was coach of the Spain.

La Liga: Real Madrid thought I was dispensable – Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo, has stated that his decision to leave Real Madrid for Juventus became imperative when the club’s president, Florentino Perez, no longer saw him as being indispensable.

Ronaldo’s former club, Real Madrid were thrashed 5-1 by their greatest rivals, Barcelona, in Sunday night’s El Clasico.

Ronaldo told France Football magazine, “I felt within the club, especially from the president, that I was no longer considered in the same way as I was at the beginning.

“For the first four or five years, I felt like Cristiano Ronaldo. Less so after.

“The president looked at me in a way that suggested I was no longer indispensable, if you know what I mean. That is what made me think about leaving.”

The Portugal captain left Real Madrid for Juventus in a 100 million-euro ($115 million) deal in the summer.

El Clasico: What Pique did to save Ramos during Barca’s 5-1 win

Barcelona ace, Gerard Pique, stopped fans of the club from abusing Real Madrid star, Sergio Ramos during El Clasico at Camp Nou last night.
Real Madrid continued their woeful start to the season as they suffered a shocking 5-1 defeat to Barcelona.

Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick while Philippe Coutino and Vidal completed the route.
Marcelo pulled one back for the Champions League holders as the Catalan giants thrashed their La Liga rivals.

Real Madrid stalwart defender, Ramos was booed and insulted by Barcelona fans until his greatest rival, Pique, came to his rescue, according to Express Sports.

The Real Madrid skipper was subjected to taunts and chants from Barcelona fans during the game.
Barca supporters were heard chanting “Sergio Ramos, hijo de puta” (Sergio Ramos, son of a b*tch).

But interestingly, Pique was seen waving his finger at the Nou Camp crowd in an attempt to get fans to stop their abusive chant.

El Clasico: Lopetegui speaks on getting sacked after 5-1 defeat to Barcelona

Real Madrid manager, Julen Lopetegui, has said he still has “the strength” to continue in the job and turn their season around, despite the “very tough blow” of Sunday’s 5-1 El Clasico hammering at Barcelona.
Philipe Countinho opened scoring for the hosts in the first half.

Luis Suarez doubled Barca’s lead from the spot, but Marcelo pulled one back after the break.
Suarez however scored twice again, but Arturo Vidal sealed the win.

Lopetegui was already under pressure, following a poor run of recent results and it is believed that with the hammering at Nou Camp, he is set to be fired.

“It is hard, a defeat is always hard, even more at Barcelona.

“We are feeling down, but I am feeling strong. This is a tough blow, but I am strong enough to know everything can be turned around. There is a long way to go, and I have a lot of faith in this group of players.

“We have been punished a lot by injuries. I feel sad at the moment, but with full strength to remain in charge of this group,” he told beIN Sports.

EPL: Sarri provides update on Hazard’s injury

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri has provided update on Eden Hazard’s injury.

The Italian suggested that Hazard will miss their Carabao Cup clash with Derby County on Wednesday.

Hazard injured his back in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United last Saturday.
The Belgian was unable to train this week and missed Chelsea’s win over BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday and the 4-0 win over Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking about Hazard’s injury after the win at Turf Moor, Sarri said the player remains a doubt ahead of Chelsea’s Wednesday fixture.

“I want him every match, if possible. I think that he offers something different,” he told Sky Sports.

“I am very happy as the team was able to score seven goals in two matches without him.

“I want him as soon as possible. I’m not sure for Wednesday.”
