“Why I Killed & Slept With My Mother’s Corpse” – 18-Year-Old Boy Makes Confessions In Edo State

A young boy who was instructed by a spiritualist to kill his mother and make love with her corpse for suspected money ritual purposes, has been apprehended by security operatives.

An-18 year old boy, Samuel Akpobome Emobor, has confessed that he killed his mother and slept with her corpse for the purpose of money ritual.

Samuel who hails from Oghara in Delta State committed the act at their rented apartment in Ologbo community in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo state.

Speaking to newsmen when he was paraded at the Edo State Police Command, Samuel said he was pushed to commit the act by a ritualist who sells drugs in the community.

According to him:-
“I wanted to use my mother for ritual. I am 18 years old. My father is dead. It was one man called One Love that told me to use my mother for money ritual.
“He promised to give me N50,000 if I killed my mother and sleep with her. He said I should cut my mother’s ear and fingers and bring them to him.
“I wanted to cut the ears and fingers before the people came in. I slept with my mother only once. I pressed my mother’s neck to kill her while she was sleeping.
“The One Love sells drugs. He put something inside the drink he gave me and he told me to go and kill my mother.
“The day I went to his house with policemen, the man has ran away. I hail from Oghara. I work in a pure water factory.
“I now feel very bad because I was beaten badly by people. I did what the ritualist told me.”
Police Commissioner, Babatunde Kokumo, said the suspect would soon be charged to court.

Why You Should Prioritise Vegetable Protein over Animal Protein

    File: Milk

When you hear the word protein, what types of food do you think of immediately? Meat, milk, chicken, eggs, fish? They are probably the same foods you associate with building muscle and perhaps weight loss on high-protein diets.

Am I right to assume that? I bet I am!

There are so many myths associated with the best sources of protein and how much you need. It is incredibly difficult to convince die-hard meat lovers that they don’t need as much protein as they think they do, and that vegetables are potentially better sources of this ‘highly-prized’ macronutrient.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that adults get around 10percent of their energy needs from protein. On average, this equates to approximately 35g for women and 44g for men per day.

This is much less than the average 100g of protein, or even up to 200g for those on high-protein weight loss diets. There is not enough scientific evidence to back claims that high (animal) protein diets lead to kidney failure or osteoporosis, but there is sufficient evidence to show that high consumption of animal protein increases the risk of various cancers, heart diseases and obesity.

The trouble with animal sources of protein is not just that they are usually high in saturated fat, it is also that (if not organic) they are full of antibiotics, pesticides and hormones – all bad news for your health.
The antibiotics in animal products is a significant contributor to the increase in antibiotic resistance in humans. The hormones in animal feed contribute significantly to hormone-related diseases like breast cancer, fibroids, ovarian cancer, prostate and testicular cancers.

You don’t need to avoid animal protein altogether but bear in mind that the best sources of protein are not necessarily those that are highest in protein. You need to assess the overall package of the food before you decide what is best.

A piece of lamb, for example, provides 25percent of total calories as protein and 75percent as fat, most of which is saturated fat. 50 percent of the calories in soya beans come from protein, so it is actually a better source of protein than lamb, but its real benefit is that the rest of the calories come from complex carbohydrates. It also contains no saturated fat, and it is a good source of fibre, vitamin C, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and vitamin b2.

Quinoa is another excellent source of protein as it also contains calcium, essential fatty acids, B vitamins and vitamin E. Beans, lentils, millet, fonio (acha), green leafy vegetables, nuts (peanuts, almonds, cashews) and seeds are other great sources of protein and a variety of other vitamins and minerals that make them more desirable protein packages.

The take-home message here is that you should not prioritise animal protein over vegetable protein. Vegetable protein is in no way, shape or form inferior to animal protein, and you are far more likely to get a lot more nutrients from them than from animal protein. Dare I add that they are also much cheaper?

  • …Athletes need moderately higher quantities of protein than the WHO recommended amounts to aid muscle repair and maintain performance.

Moi-moi leaf plant prevents kidney, liver damage

Moi moi leaf plant (Thaumatococcus daniellii)
Nigerian researchers have demonstrated how Moi moi leaf plant (Thaumatococcus danielli) protects against the complications of diabetes such as kidney damage as well as liver failure.

In fact, research has shown that Thaumatococcus daniellii seed is a natural source of antioxidant principles. It also showed that the in vivo antioxidant properties were favourable when compared to vitamin C, and this seed can be exploited for antioxidant bioactive components for the amelioration of liver and kidney diseases.

One of the studies published in the Journal of Biological Sciences and Science Alert concluded: “This study indicates the possible antioxidant properties of Thaumatococcus daniellii seed on rats’ kidney and liver, which is highly comparable with vitamin C (a known antioxidant). The study could also lead to the discovery of a novel antioxidant lead compound, in the seed, for amelioration of liver and kidney diseases.”

Botanically called Thaumatococcus daniellii, Moi moi leaf plant belongs to the family Marantaceae. It is commonly referred to as miraculous fruit, miraculous berry, serendipity berry and katamfe/katempfe. In Nigeria, it is popular referred to as soft cane. The Yorubas call it Ewe-Eran or Adundunmitan and to the Igbos it is called Akwukwo Elele.

Thaumatococcus daniellii is a plant species from Africa, natives to the rain forest of Western Africa, known for being the natural source of thaumatin, an intensely sweet protein that is of interests in the development of sweeteners.

The seed is relatively high in protein, starch and minerals, especially calcium and magnesium. Traditionally, the leaves of Thaumatococcus daniellii are used for wrapping various types of foods such as bean cake, yam flour, rice and pounded yam for both domestic use and commercial enterprise. They are also used for preserving kolanuts and as food supplement to some ruminants including goat.

It is also used in traditional medicines in Ivory Coast and Congo where the fruit is used as a laxative and the seed as an emetic and for pulmonary problems. The leaf sap is used as an antidote against venoms, strings and bites. Leaf and root sap are used as sedative and for treating diabetes mellitus and in sanity.

The first study published in the British Journal of Pharmaceutical Research is titled “Thaumatococcus daniellii Extract Modulates Glibenclamide Activity and Ameliorates Haematological Disorders, Oxidative Stress and Dyslipidemia
Associated with Diabetes Mellitus in Rats.”

Glibenclamide is an oral hypoglycaemic drug, which stimulates insulin release from the pancreas for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

The second study titled “Nephroprotective effect of ethanolic leaf extract of Thaumatococcus danielli in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats” was published in the journal Functional Foods in Health & Disease.

The third study by researchers from the Department of Biochemistry, College of Science and Technology, Covenant University, Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State, is titled “Antioxidant and Biochemical Evaluation of Thaumatococcus daniellii Seeds in Rat.” It was published in Journal of Biological Sciences.

Researchers of the first study from Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, investigated the roles of Thaumatococcus daniellii methanol leaves extract in combination with Glibenclamide.

Thirty five male Wistar rats averagely weighing 150 grammes treated for 15 days, were randomly selected into seven groups; A (Control), B (Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats), C (Diabetic rats administered 100 mg/kg/day body weight of extract), D (Diabetic rats administered therapeutic dose of Glibenclamide), E (Diabetic rats treated with therapeutic dose of Glibenclamide and 100mg/kg/day bodyweight of extract), F (Extract only) and G (Glibenclamide only).

The researchers evaluated the haematological, lipid profile and antioxidant parameters using international standardized methods. The results showed that Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats (group B) elicits significant increases in haematological parameters such as fasting blood glucose level, white blood cell counts, lymphocytes and platelets with corresponding decreases in red blood cell counts and serum protein while it also exhibits significant increases in serum total cholesterol, triglycerides and a significant decrease in high density lipoprotein (HDL)/ good cholesterol with corresponding decreases in liver reduced glutathione level, superoxide dismutase and catalase activities as well as elevated levels of malondialdehyde.

According to the study, the extract and Glibenclamide, however, showed anti-diabetic effects as levels and activities of these markers were restored nearly to controls in groups C, D and E with significant effects exhibited by group C and in the order C>D=E.

The researchers concluded: “Results are suggestive of the anti-diabetic and modulatory effects of the extract on Glibenclamide activity and its use could be encouraged.”

The researchers noted: “The results from the evaluation of the various biochemical parameters studied are indicative of a possible hypoglycaemia (lowers blood sugar), hypolipidaemia (lowers blood fat), anti-inflammatory (painkiller), antioxidative (protects against cell damage) and hepatoprotective (protects the kidneys) potentials of the extract and in combined treatment with the standard drug, an indication that the extract contain certain bioactive agent with antioxidant properties, which may act by probably inhibiting or mopping Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) formation in diabetes, a property which may be exploited in drug discovery, while the extract behavior in the combined treatment are indicative of its modulatory effects on the standard drug or possibly working synergistically with the drug.

“Hence usage of the plant in folk medicine as anti–diabetic agent could be encouraged in poor regions of Africa; either singly or in combination with orthodox anti-diabetic drugs when available. While further work is required on the safety of such combination with orthodox drugs as currently practiced by some natives.”

According to the researchers of the second study, the leaves of Thaumatococcus danielli have been traditionally used in folk medicine to treat malaria in Nigeria. However, there is no report on whether these leaves contain nephron-protective activity. Thus, the ethanol leaf extract was investigated for Nephron-protective activity in Streptozotocin induced diabetic rats.

First, the LD50 (Lethal Dose) of the leaf was determined using standard procedure. Rats were assigned to five groups (A-E) of five rats. Except for the control group, each group was made diabetic using Streptozotocin (65 mg/kg/b.wt. i p).

The treated groups received 0.5 ml of glibenclamide (25mg/kg/b.wt, o.p), 250 and 500 mg/kg/b.wt, o.p of Thaumatococcus danielli respectively. After 14 days of treatment, animals were sacrificed under light anaesthesia. Data were expressed as Means ± S.D (n=5) and were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Dunnet’s test, values were considered significant at p<0.05.

The plant showed a LD50 greater than 5000 mg/kg/b.wt in albino rats observed for 72 hours. A significant (p<0.05) decreased in serum Na+, Cl-, HCO-3, total protein, and an insignificant increase in K+, urea and creatinine level were observed in the diabetic group when compared with the normal group. Oral administration of plant extract and glibenclamide significantly restored the electrolytes to near normal. Histological alterations such as glomerulonephritis, and tubules infiltration by inflammatory cells observed in diabetic control were also reversed.

The researchers concluded: “This study suggests renal protective ability of the plant against impairment due to hyperglycemia (high blood glucose).”

According to the third study, despite numerous reports of medicinal uses of
Thaumatococcus daniellii plant, there remains a dearth of information on the in vivo effect of the seed. The study assessed the antioxidant and biochemical effects of T.

daniellii seeds in the liver and kidney of male Wistar rats.
Seeds were macerated with ethanol and filtrate was concentrated to yield an ethanolic crude extract. Rats were orally dosed with vitamin C, 500, 1000 and 1500 mg of the extracts for 14 days. Antioxidant and biochemical parameters were evaluated. Liver histology was examined.

It was observed that T. daniellii seed reduced the amount of total body weight gain but did not have any effect on organ weight. Treatment also resulted in significant increase in hepatic SOD and GSH. SOD, an endogenous enzymatic antioxidant exerts its function by scavenging radicals while GSH (an endogenous non enzymatic antioxidant). It was only at the highest dose that renal GSH increased significantly.

These antioxidant effects were associated with maintaining bilirubin concentration and reducing AST activity in the liver. Histopathological observations were in correlation with the biochemical results showing that there was no pathologic abnormality.

The results of this study indicate that T. daniellii seed is a source of natural antioxidant and may be exploited for the treatment of kidney and liver diseases.

The researchers explained: “From the result, there was no decrease beyond 10 per cent of the animal organs weight indicating that T. daniellii seed may be non-toxic to the organs. The observed difference in weight gain may be as a result of the high crude fibre, low fat content and fat yield potential of the seed which has been reported in previous studies. It may also be as a result of the crude fibre present in the seed binding to cholesterol in the gut and delaying gastric emptying and cholesterol synthesis thus reducing body weight. This is in line with the study conducted by Iheagwam et al. and Elemo et al.

“Due to the metabolic processes that are simultaneously carried out in cells, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced. Endogenous and exogenous antioxidants (enzymatic and non-enzymatic) protect cells from ROS attack. Plants are made up of secondary metabolites and phyto-constituents with excellent antioxidant properties, which help in prevention and management of diseases. SOD, an endogenous enzymatic antioxidant exerts its function by scavenging radicals while GSH (an endogenous non enzymatic antioxidant) conjugates these radicals preventing cellular injury through lipid peroxidation of cell membranes. MDA is the consequent product of lipid peroxidation and an index of measuring the metabolic level of oxidative stress.

The observable increase in SOD and GSH after T. daniellii seed administration may be as a result of synergistic stimulatory effects of various active components present in the seed on the synthesis of these enzymes.

“Flavonoids possess antioxidant properties while these elements are cofactors responsible for the normal functioning of SOD’s four isozymes. Chinedu et al. and
Abiodun et al. have previously reported the presence of flavonoids and micronutrients (copper, nickel, manganese and iron) respectively in the seeds. Conversely, high oxalate content in the seed might be responsible for the increase in renal MDA, as they are known to aid kidney stone formation.

Liver function biomarkers are used to assess hepatotoxicity and hepatocyte integrity.

“The significant decrease of AST and insignificant effect on DBIL and TBIL despite the high concentration of T. daniellii seed dosage suggests a hepato-protective ability of the seed since liver membrane integrity was not affected. The antioxidant activity of this seed may consequently be responsible for the hepato-protective effect of T. daniellii seed. Kamisan et al have previously reported this relationship. Slight to mild periportal infiltration by inflammatory cells was observed in the liver histology. This observation has been reported as an indicator of positive immune response.

“The result obtained in this study was in conformity with in vivo studies carried out on other parts of T. danielli particularly the leaves.”

Canada apologizes for turning away Jews fleeing Nazi Germany

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologized in parliament on Wednesday for Canada’s refusal to admit Jewish asylum seekers fleeing Nazi Germany just months before the outbreak of World War II.

Canada Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau: keeps campaign promise by legalising marijuana
On May 15, 1939 the ocean liner MS St. Louis departed Germany and crossed the Atlantic with 907 German Jews aboard, desperate for refuge from persecution.

The passengers were barred from disembarking at Cuba, and then denied entry in the United States and Canada due to the discriminatory immigration policies of the time.

Forced to return to Europe, many were sent to concentration camps, and 254 died in the Holocaust.

Their emotional journey would later inspire the 1974 book “Voyage of the Damned” and a movie of the same title.

“While decades have passed since we turned our backs on Jewish refugees, time has by no means absolved Canada of its guilt or lessened the weight of its shame,” Trudeau said in a speech.

“Today, I rise in this House to issue a long overdue apology to the Jewish refugees Canada turned away,” he said.

“We are sorry for the callousness of Canada’s response,” he said. “We refused to help them when we could have. We contributed to sealing the cruel fates of far too many at places like Auschwitz, Treblinka, and Belzec.”

Earlier the prime minister sat down in his office with one of the survivors of that tragic voyage, Ana Maria Gordon, and her family to discuss the need to continue fighting anti-Semitism.

“We had a tragic reminder just a few weeks ago that we need to continue to work together,” Trudeau told reporters, alluding to the massacre of 11 people at a synagogue in the US city of Pittsburgh on October 27.

The attack was believed to be the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in recent American history.

In Canada, incidents of anti-Semitism — including harassment, vandalism and violence — reached a record high in 2017, doubling from the previous year to 1,752, according to the Jewish advocacy organization B’nai B’rith.

In parliament, Trudeau called on all Canadians to “stand up against xenophobic and anti-Semitic attitudes that still exist in our communities, in our schools, and in our places of work.”

“Holocaust deniers still exist. Anti-Semitism is still far too present,” he said. “Discrimination and violence against Jewish people in Canada and around the world continues at an alarming rate.

“Sadly, these evils did not end with the Second World War.”

History Made As Two Muslim Women Are Elected To The US Congress

First two Muslim women elected to US Congress

Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib and Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar both made history Tuesday by winning their elections and becoming the first Muslim women to be elected to the U.S. Congress.

Tlaib won the congressional seat for Michigan’s 13th district after former Representative John Conyers abruptly stepped down following sexual harassment allegations, leaving the seat vacant.

The Palestinian-American Muslim ran under the Democratic Party, having previously served six years in the state legislature.

With no Republican opponent, Tlaib defeated Etta Wilcoxon of the Green Party and Sam Johnson of the Working Class Party.

“Why am I running? Because this is about electing the jury to impeach @POTUS and I will make a heck of juror,” Tlaib said in a tweet aimed at U.S. President Donald Trump.

Tlaib campaigned on a platform that advocated for a $15 minimum wage, free public college tuition and ending corporate welfare. A proud Palestinian, Tlaib has also been an advocate for Palestinian rights and is an outspoken critic of Trump.

“Congratulations to my sister @RashidaTlaib on your victory! I cannot wait to serve with you, inshallah,”Omar, who also won her election, said on Twitter.

The seat Omar won, Minnesota’s 5th district, was formerly held by Rep. Keith Ellison, who was the first Muslim to take a seat in Congress. Ellison did not run for re-election as he sought the state attorney generalship.

Omar, another Democrat, is a Somali-American who came to the U.S. over two decades ago as a refugee. She campaigned on a progressive platform and won the endorsement of the Democratic Party’s fledging progressive wing, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

She ran against and defeated Republican candidate Jennifer Zielinski, becoming the first congresswoman to wear a hijab.

This year, a record 90 Muslims were contesting in the polls since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, according to Jetpac, an organization that helps Muslims run for political office.

Six Muslims ran for political office at the national level. Aga Khan, Omar Qudrat and Mahmoud Mahmoud all ran for a seat in the House of Representatives but fell short of their goals.

Ludovic MARIN / AFP

US President Donald Trump will meet on Saturday with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in Paris on the sidelines of World War I commemoration ceremonies.

The two leaders were to discuss notably “the situation in Syria” and “the threat posed by Iran,” a White House official said Wednesday on condition of anonymity.

The tete-a-tete is the only bilateral meeting slated for Trump’s Paris trip, according to the official.

The Kremlin had evoked the possibility of talks between Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, but Trump said Wednesday no such meeting was planned.

The US president, along with his wife Melania, will be among leaders of at least 60 countries expected in Paris on Sunday to kick off the commemorations marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the war.

The main ceremony will take place at the Arc de Triomphe war monument in Paris at 11 a.m. on November 11 — marking the time when the guns finally fell silent after four years of trench warfare and general European slaughter.

Trump will attend the ceremonies to “highlight the sacrifices that Americans have made, not only during World War I but also in the century since, in the name of liberty,” the White House said.

Over the weekend Trump will visit the Bois Belleau and Suresnes American cemeteries.

The last meeting between Trump and Macron dates back to September when the duo met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York

Osinbajo, US Consul-General seek greater investment in girls, increased representation for women

From Left: Chairman, Board of Trustees, WIMBIZ, Ms. Funmi Roberts; United States Consul-                    General, John Bray; and Chairperson, Executive Council, WIMBIZ, Ms. Olubunmi Aboderin-Talabi,            at the 17th WIMBIZ Annual Conference in Lagos last Friday.

Nigeria cannot achieve its dreams of a prosperous and inclusive society without reinventing its approach to how it is treating the overwhelming majority of the women and girls that live in its country.

This was the submission of  the United States Consul General, John Bray, who spoke at the 17th  Women in Management, Business and Public Service, WIMBIZ, annual 2-day conference held last week in Lagos with the theme  ‘Unstoppable You: Reinvent and Reinvigorate’.

This was even as the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, argued that there was need for women in the country to push for better representation in organisations.

According to Bray who was keynote speaker at the event  which had over 1,800 women from various walks of life in attendance, increased investment in the education of the girl-child and greater political participation by women in Nigeria, was urgently needed in the country.

“Nigeria is reportedly home to the largest number of out-of-school children in the world, many of whom are girls. If Nigeria properly invested in the education of women and girls, how many more Amina Mohammeds will represent this country on the world stage? If more women and girls are given equal opportunities, how many more Chimamanda Ngozi Adichies will be able to tell stories that enthral the world?

“Women leaders must continue working to promote gender equality in Nigeria. It is up to you to change the tenor of the national discourse and prod Nigeria to place education and health, and the status of women and girls higher on its national agenda,” Bray emphasised as he reiterated that removing barriers to women’s full economic participation was key to an inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.

Osinbajo, on her part, urged women to be unstoppable as the success of others around them, as well as the growth of the country, depended on their own success.

She said: “The argument that women can achieve success in their workplace has been won, the push for better representation and leadership on boards of organisations is ongoing. To be unstoppable is to make a mark. Do the best you can with what you have from season to season, stage to stage. If you are unstoppable and your neighbour, friends are unstoppable from all unstoppable then our nation becomes unstoppable.”

Speaking on the theme of the conference which featured seven plenary sessions, a debate on new technology and several deep dive sessions on ‘Being Mrs Incredible’, ‘The Art of Happiness’, ‘Leading with Emotional Intelligence’, among others, Chairperson, WIMBIZ, Mrs Olubunmi Aboderin-Talabi, said it was thoughtfully crafted with the goal of inspiring, encouraging and empowering womenfolk.

Stressing that WIMBIZ’s activities was having huge impacts in the lives of the 105,555 women who had benefitted from it since it was founded 17 years ago, she said: “Former WIMBIZ Executive Council Chairperson, Aisha Ahmad, became confirmed and resumed as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. WIMBIZ Executive Council member, Audrey Joe-Ezigbo, became the first ever female president of the Nigerian Gas Association.”

Drawing from her own experiences, a Founding member and an executive of WIMBIZ, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, Chairman, First Bank Nigeria Plc., asserted that every woman was unstoppable as long as she was focused on her goals.

Awosika said: “You need to focus on your goals and be willing to discipline yourself in every way required to achieve those goals. My advice will be: just stay with it, keep yourself, do not try to do it alone because you cannot, build a network to support your ability, and be honest with yourself. Bear in mind that there are many different ways your goals will happen. Just find a way around it.”

On how women could draw a line between hard work and stress in the quest to be successful, Hansatu Adegbite, Executive Director, WIMBIZ, said: “Stress and pressure are inevitable in the life of everyone.

But the most important thing is to learn how to manage stress, plan effectively, leverage on a support system so that you are not running everything alone, know when it is enough and take a step back, as well as a breather. I will like to say that it is very important to find time to rest and refresh yourself, and at the same time keep achieving that which you have set out to achieve.

Adegbite also urged women to leverage on things like technology to more effortlessly joggle work with family life.

To guard against depression in their pursuits, mental health expert, Mrs Maymunah Kadiri, on her part, warned that every woman must strive to know who she is.

“Know your stressors, have a healthy support system because a good support system can help lift you up when you are down and will  always be your cheer leader when you are up there. More importantly, know your numbers, just as when one of the panelists today advised. Your blood pressure, your body mass index, sugar level, etc. are very important for you to know. Health is wealth and if you are not healthy, you cannot achieve whatever level of wealth you have mapped out to achieve,” Kadiri said.
Other speakers and personalities at the event were the wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs Folorunsho Amosun; wife of former governor of Lagos State, Mrs Abimbola Fashola; Betty Irabor, Founder/Publisher, Genevieve Magazine; Bunmi George, Founder, Shredder Gang; Nkem Begho, Managing Director, Future Soft, among others.

EPL: Conte drags Chelsea to court, demands £20million settlement

Antonio Conte has refused to meet with Chelsea and is insisting on taking them to court for the rest of his salary, Sky Sports News reports.

Conte, who recently turned down the Real Madrid job, feels he should be paid what he is contractually owed out of respect, after he was sacked earlier this year.

It is understood that the Italian’s lawyers have been working on two separate cases for weeks: one for an employment tribunal and the other for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Chelsea have been trying to set up face-to-face talks with Conte in search of an out-of-court solution, but he has refused to attend those meetings.

Conte reportedly wants £8.7m worth of damages on top of his remaining year’s salary of £11.3m, taking his claim to £20m.

But it is believed that Chelsea are refusing to pay because of his behaviour while at the club, including treatment of Diego Costa, failure to turn up to sponsorship events, late arrival to press conferences, and parking in the wrong space at their Cobham training ground.

Quote of the day

When it comes to achieving success, one of the most important steps that you can take is setting good goals.

SMART goals will give you the maximum possible benefit and heighten your chances of success.

SMART stands for “Specific”, “Measurable”, “Achievable”, “Relevant”, and “Time-Bound”.

Setting SMART objectives is simple – all you have to do is create a goal that fits each of the criteria in the SMART acronym:

Specific: Have a clear, concise goal that you can set your sights on.

Measurable: Tracking the progress allows you to set milestones that you can celebrate when you meet them and reevaluate when you don’t.

Achievable: Make sure that you can envision yourself achieving it. They should be challenging yet achievable.

Relevant: Unless your goal is relevant to your overall plan for your life, achieving it may not accomplish anything.

Time-Bound: You will be much more motivated to succeed when you have a target date in mind for your goals.
Setting a SMART goal is still only half the battle – now you have to achieve it.

In my recent blog, go into detail about setting SMART goals and how achieve your them with three steps. Click here to read more about achieving your goals.
